Severe Wildfires Devastate Mexico

Since the start of 2025, Mexico has been battling a series of intense forest fires, with over 2,800 fires recorded across all states. More than 215,000 hectares have burned, making it the third most severe year on record for the first four months. A false-color Copernicus Sentinel-2 image from 23 April 2025 captures a large burn scar south of Ciudad Altamirano, Guerrero. Open data from Sentinel satellites plays a critical role in monitoring wildfire impacts, guiding damage assessments, and supporting emergency response efforts worldwide.
