Overview

The Earth Observation Training, Education, and Capacity Development Network (EOTEC DevNet) is a network of networks bringing the power of satellite-derived Earth information to more users around the globe.

Created in 2021 by a group of space and meteorological agencies, our global community today includes scientists, educators, capacity building professionals, and subject matter experts.

OUR MISSION

Extend the reach of Earth observation (EO) capacity building globally.

OUR FOCUS

Increase the use of Earth information in decision-making on disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation and mitigation.

OUR AIMS

  • Improve collaboration among EO capacity building providers
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and opportunities
  • Connect community members to training and capacity building opportunities
  • Collaborate on guidance, tools, and use cases
  • Showcase innovation and best practices

How We Work

Regional communities of practice: Our Communities of Practice (CoPs) in Africa, the Americas, Asia-Oceania, and Europe meet regularly in virtual meetings and on our member platform. Members share information and tools, exchange best practices, and identify regional EO capacity building needs. Each regional CoP comprises a task team and thematic working groups. Currently, EOTEC hosts regional thematic working groups on flooding and droughts.

Global leadership: Our Global Task Team unites representatives of global EO training providers to identify areas of collaboration and pinpoint capacity building gaps.

Secretariat: Our Secretariat serves as an information hub, supporting the regional and global teams and promoting knowledge sharing.

Our work is supported by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research through Friedrich Schiller University Jena’s projects EO Connect (FKZ 01DU20002A) and EO College 2026 (FKZ 50EE2404A), managed by the German Space Agency (DLR).

Who should participate in EOTEC DevNet?

Capacity development managers, trainers, educators or professionals and subject matter experts interested in EO-related capacity building. You do not need to be affiliated with one of our member networks to join.
