Jet streams and their impact on dynamic processes are a critical element that the meteorological analyst and forecaster must always consider during the evaluation of the atmosphere. In this special session we will explore conceptual models and the characteristics of jets in upper levels of the southern hemisphere; concentrating on the two branches of the polar jet, the subtropical, the polar night jet and the subequatorial.
