Quantitative precipitation estimation with satellites and its applications to nowcasting

This course will cover the principles and fundamentals of quantitative precipitation estimation from satellites and the generation of global precipitation products such
as GSMAP. It will also cover the importance of validating and applying regional calibration techniques for these products. Finally, the fundamentals of the
generation of short-term forecasts (nowcasting) as an application of the precipitation estimation product will be introduced.
There will be lectures in Spanish and English.
PREVENIR is an international cooperation project between Argentina and Japan, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program. The Japan institutions involved in the project are RIKEN Center for Computational Science, the University of Osaka, the International Center for Water Hazards and the Japan Meteorological Agency, and Argentinean institutions are the National Meteorological Service, the National Water Institute and the National Research Council.
