This introductory course was developed by the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) with the purpose to introduce the 3 pillars approach of integrated drought management: 1) monitoring and early warning, 2) vulnerability and impact assessment, and 3) preparedness, mitigation, and response.

The course consists of 4 modules, focusing on monitoring and early warnings, importance of data access and indicators and indices used to describe drought conditions, and conducting drought assessments.

In addition, the course uses regional cases to show how to select indicators and indices that are relevant to their regional context. Tools and products available for drought forecasting, monitoring and impact assessment are explored.
The course is offered online in a self-paced mode of attendance, with a deadline to complete the course readings and assignments by the 15th of November 2023. It is estimated that 2 hours of study time is required to complete each module.
