Aeronautical Meteorological Observing Course

This course (AMO) will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to make fully compliant and accurate aviation weather reports. The acquisition of the necessary skills is achieved through a combination of theory and practical training. The theory component will take place in our headquarters in Exeter during week 1. Week 2 will take place in Belfast and will give students the opportunity to apply their theoretical skills during a week of practical training.

Week 1 – Exeter (Theory) 10th – 14th September 2018
Week 2 – Belfast (Practical) 17th – 21st September 2018

The Met Office is a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approved provider of aviation observer training. As the UK Meteorology Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority contracts the Met Office to train airfield observers and deliver comprehensive aviation meteorological training. The training offered by the Met Office is up to date, relevant and trains observers to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements. Our training is focused and intense, so staff are not removed from their operational duties for longer than necessary.

Training is available specifically for meteorological observers working in air traffic control or offshore helicopter operations, with a variety of courses available to meet the specific requirements of these varied environments.
