2018 Workshop for Senior Management on Meteorological Services in Developing Countries

Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology is a highly recognized Regional Training Center (RTC-Nanjing) by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as well as UNESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee. It has held 107 international and 35 bilateral training courses from 1990 to 2017. About 3500 meteorologists and hydrologists from 156 countries (regions) have been trained. Many of them have become the backbone in their respective National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs).
With strong support from Chinese government, RTC-Nanjing provides a wide range of international training courses on various subjects for the development of human resources in developing countries, such as executive management, meteorological observation, weather and climate service, disaster risk reduction, radar meteorology, satellite meteorology, agro-meteorology, weather modification, etc. It strictly follows the WMO Manual on the Implementation of Education and Training Standards in Meteorology and Hydrology, Guidelines for the education and training of meteorological personnel in meteorology and operational hydrology, and other regulator materials. Commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce China, the “2018 Workshop for Senior Management on Meteorological Services in Developing Countries” will be hosted by Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) in Nanjing from Nov. 6 to 10, 2018. The 5-day Workshop will be organized in English.
This Workshop will provide a high-level forum for exchanging management skills and discussing strategic development in meteorological services and related disaster risk reduction activities. High level officials from WMO as well as the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) will give lectures at the workshop. Visits to the multi-hazard warning platform of Shanghai Meteorological Services and other facilities will also be arranged.
