The training course for the WMO “Meteorological Technician” qualification is designed to provide public administration personnel involved in land management and civil protection emergencies with a solid and operational foundation of technical, scientific, and practical knowledge necessary to:
• understand the main atmospheric phenomena and their evolution;
• correctly interpret weather information and forecasts;
• support decision-making processes in the prevention, monitoring, and management of emergencies;
• promote a shared technical language among the various actors in the civil protection system.
The training consists of a total of 105 hours, and is offered online – synchronous -, except for two in-presence sessions (opening and closing). In order to obtain the certificate of completion of the training, participants are asked to successfully complete the questionnaire for the assessment of the acquired knowledge.
The course is co-organized by the WMO RTC in Italy and the Met-Evolution, a start-up company based in Aidone (En, Italy).
Participation will be by invitation only, and it will consider applicants from regional NMHSs and Civil Protection Offices in Sicily (Italy).
