This is an invitation to European Brewer operators to take part in the nineteenth Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe (RBCC-E) intercomparison that will be held at the Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos, and World Radiation Center (PMOD/WRC), in Davos, Switzerland during the period 19-28 August 2024.
This nineteenth campaign will be a joint exercise of the Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe (RBCC-E), the Regional Dobson Calibration Center for Europe (RDCC-E) and the PMOD/WRC with the support of MeteoSwiss and the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) program of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The campaign will offer a unique opportunity for personnel measuring total column ozone to share their experiences, learn from qualified experts about instrument troubleshooting and data processing. The inclusion in the campaign of different ‘new’ instruments will be an excellent chance for the operators to learn about the performance of these new instruments, which could be a replacement for the old ones in the future.
The following operations will be offered by the RBCC-E during the intercomparison: 1) Ozone calibration against the RBCC-E travelling reference (B#185), 2) AOD calibration transferred from RBCC-E travelling instrument, 3) Compilation of the calibration histories of the instruments, 4) Evaluation of the Level 2 EUBREWNET ozone data for the period between intercomparisons.
The Brewer campaign is organized by RBCC-E, who provides the brewer ozone and AOD calibrations against the references instruments maintained at Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre (I-ARC) at Izaña Observatory (IZO, Canary Islands), managed by the “Agencia Estatal de Meteorología” (AEMET, Spain). Furthermore, a Dobson intercomparison campaign will run from August 19th to 30th, 2024. This campaign is organized by the Regional Dobson Calibration Center for Europe (WMO RDCC-RA-VI), which is managed by the Meteorological Observatory Hohenpeissenberg (Germany). Additionally, the QASUME unit of the Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos / World Radiation Center (PMOD/WRC) will participate and provide a global UV reference spectrum for the ultraviolet measurements.
