The main objective of this session is to provide the operation forecasters with the very basic information about NWP models. The session will be presented by Dr Sultan Al-Yahyai and will cover the following topics:
– Basic concept of NWP models
– Grid points, model resolution
– Vertical layers
– Difference between global and regional models
– Why boundary conditions are needed and what is their effect on the regional model
– How to generate the initial condition of the model
– How to understand the meteogram product
– Why NWP models are not perfect? How much should forecaster expect from NWP model?
