GAWTEC, the GAW Training and Education Centre in Germany, announces its 42nd training session to be held from April 15th – 26th, 2024. GAWTEC 42 is going to focus on Total Atmospheric Deposition. GAWTEC, operated through funds from the German Environment Agency and the Bavarian State Ministry for Environment, Health and Consumer Protection, is based at the Environmental Research Station “Umweltforschungsstation Schneefernerhaus” (UFS), which accommodates the high-alpine platform of the GAW Global Station “Zugspitze/Hohenpeissenberg”. GAWTEC is part of QA/SAC Germany and responsible for training and education of station personnel from global and regional GAW stations by teaching measurement techniques and data analysis. Teaching (introductory courses and advanced training) is done by experts from the GAW community. Lessons are given by the German Meteorological Service, the German Environment Agency, the GAW World Calibration Centre(s), Empa, and WMO SAG. For special topics, lecturers from national and international universities and other institutes are invited. GAWTEC courses are held exclusively in English. Trainees must therefore have good English language skills to follow lectures, instrument instructions, and deepening discussions. GAWTEC offers its courses only to technicians and junior scientists who work at stations with instruments and data and is not meant for senior scientists and managers. Lab courses on measurement techniques as well as seminars on data evaluation and quality assurance will be offered. The session will also offer instruction on the analysis and integration of measurement data for generating products of relevance to society. Staff members from both Regional and Global GAW stations who perform or plan to perform these measurements and fulfil the requirements (see our website) are invited in GAWTEC 42.
