BIP-M training (Advanced Meteorological Training Course) in the discipline of General Meteorology

Meteorological Training Institute, IMD, Pune component of RTC India, regularly organizes Advanced Meteorological Training Course (BIP-M training) in the discipline of General Meteorology. This course consists of 2 semesters, each of 6 months’ duration. After every semester, final exam is hold, which consists of written exam and Viva-Voce. In the 2nd Semester trainees have to do a project work, which consists of preparation of a project report followed by project presentation and also has to undergo about 23 days On the Job Training. The forthcoming batch (No-184) of this course shall be conducted w.e.f. 11.09.2023. Maximum Intake capacity for overseas participants is 10 on the basis of first come first serve.
IMD & Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India has renewed a MoU, vide which, eligible and willing trainees of this AMTC course, after successfully completing the course, are provided an opportunity to obtain M.Tech (Atmospheric Sciences) degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Meteorology from Andhra University subject to following terms & conditions:
Terms & conditions for admission of M. Tech Degree / Post Graduate Diploma:
i. Only those trainees are eligible with educational qualification (a) Master of Science (M. Sc) in Mathematics /Physics /Meteorology /Physical Oceanography/Agricultural meteorology (b) B. E. or B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering/ Electronics and communication Engineering/ Instrumentation.
ii. Willing & eligible trainees will spend the first one year (Semester I & II) at IMD training centers for the advanced Met training course. This is followed by next one year (Semester III & IV) devoted to project work and dissertation.
iii. Willing & eligible trainees, admitted to M.Tech (Atmospheric Sciences) program, are supposed to spend 2-3 weeks, in each semester III & IV, at Department of Meteorology and Oceanography, A. U. , Visakhapatnam, India. During this period, they will attend lectures delivered by faculties of the Department and also during this period progress of their project work will be examined. During their 2-3 weeks stay in semester IV, they will submit their project and make a presentation.
iv. Fees as prescribed by Andhra University will be payable by the selected eligible willing trainees. Andhra University will adjudicate the dissertations and award M. Tech Degree to the qualified / eligible candidates.
v. Post Graduate Diploma in Meteorology to those trainees with Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) (Physics / Mathematics) qualification after successfully completing one-year IMD’s AMTC may be offered.
vi. Overseas willing trainees with BSc (Physics/Mathematics) qualification may opt for Post Graduate Diploma in Meteorology after paying necessary fees to the AU and successfully completing the one-year AMTC.
vii. Other trainees, nominated by PR of their countries, either not willing or not fulfilling the educational qualification criteria mentioned at (i), will as usual complete the IMD’s WMO recognized AMTC and obtain necessary certificates after successful completion of the course.
